Antsy Pantsy
My horse people will totally get this, the rest of you will think I'm a crazy nutbar!
Today is Tuesday, I saw my horse on Saturday and I will see him tomorrow and all I freakin want to do is go to the barn!!!
Saturday to Wednesday is soooooooo long!!!!
I love spending time out there! I love hanging with my horse! I love seeing my barn friends, seeing the other horses, sneaking treats to all my favs and I love riding!!
When I'm not at the barn, I'm thinking about the barn.
I think about all the things my horse and I need to work on, I look forward to all the silly things he will do when I see him, I look forward to hearing him nicker, to giving him treats, to conquering new skills, there is just so much always going on!
The funny part is my barn friends are also doing the same thing, we are all pining away for our ponies while we toil away at our adult lives.
I have to say of all the social groups I have been in, of all the friend circles I have encountered, I have never stayed as connected to any as I do with my barn friends.
Barn friends constantly text to see how the last ride went, to tell you the ridiculous thing your horse did when you weren't looking, to cheer you on when you finally master a skill you have been fighting with, to offer help when they know you're busy, they simply have your back!
Horses are amazing and Barn Friends Rock!!
So here is a shout out to the nearly dozen adults I ride with and the tons of kids too! You guys are all wonderful and I couldn't ask for better people to spend my free time with!
Me and some of my ladies :)
Just for fun here is a short list of things horse friends do for you that other friends don't/won't/are glad they aren't expected to do.
1) Talk about poop! Horse friends will answer any an all questions about horse poop, they will message you when they see your horse do anything pertaining to poop! It's gross, I know, but in the horse world poop is such a huge health thing that it becomes kind of a hot topic! (pun intended)
Horse friends will even race across a pasture to look at your horse's dookie for you to just make sure things are working as they should - yes, this actually happened and it was hilarious!
2) Giggle with you when one of you says something pertaining to a horse that, if said about a person, might get you in serious trouble. Let's face it, an insane amount of normal things said about horses just sound raunchy, and your friends know it and they also think it's hysterical.
3) Do half your work for you when you're sick, lazy, distracted or plain whiny. A horse friend is always up to catch your horse when you're running late, pick hooves when you just can't bring yourself to go elbow deep in mud, saddle your ride when you're exhausted or ride your horse for you when you don't have the energy for the work out your pony actually needs. Horse friends fill in all the gaps in what you bring to the table and they are as much a part of the team as you and your horse are.
4) Go shopping for anything horsey with you!! Horse friends are up for a trip to get salt blocks, saddle pads, feed, anything! If it's horse related they are down for a day out to the feed or tack store!
5) They will stay up all night texting with you when you're stressed about something a non horse person would think was silly. It can be anything from a serious sickness like colic or lameness, to just going over how a ride didn't go as expected, or how your guy is favoring one side in the round pen, or that you can't figure out how to get a stupid tail bag to stay in place. Horse friends know that the things that gnaw at us aren't always huge but they will keep us up, so they are happy to hash out the details until we feel like we can conquer anything.
They are a fun lot, a unique mix of people and I wouldn't trade them for anything (except maybe more horses, hehehe, just kidding)
Thanks friends, see you at the barn soon!!
